Druid Gear Sets

A typical druid keep many sets of gear in his or her inventory. I personally carry 3 sets, one for caster (+int/stam/spir/damage/healing/% spell crit), one for bear form (+armor/str/agi/stam/attack power/% melee crit) and one for cat form, which is similar to bear form gear with the exception of +armor items. Some bear form and cat form items overlap, but carrying 20 pieces of extra gear is common for an average druid. Hybrid gear is few and far in between, plus wearing hybrid gear will make you mediocre at everything instead of excelling at one thing. Finding a balance between all the types of gear is very difficult.

Note that equipping gear specifically for one situation also comes with a price. For example, if you equip only intellect gear, expect your melee attacks in bear and cat forms to be less powerful. And if you wear full feral gear, you won’t have much mana to mess around with, which makes mana conservation more important and your melee damage output higher. All these factors, plus more, are considerations when choosing gear sets.

Below are links to guides on gear specializing in one category (ie heal, tank), the druid's default tier 0 superior blue item set (Wildheart), tier 1 and 2 epic sets, and hybrid gear. I will also list what they are (mostly) good for.

Note: I am only going to list superior items (blue) or above that are endgame gear (usually level 52+ req to use unless the item is extremely good). As a rule of thumb, know that superior items most casual players can get, while epic items are for the hardcore players (either PVP or in 40-man endgame raiding guild or both).

Note 2: I will not list cloth gear even though druids can wear them. I personally do not recommend using cloth gear because druids benefit a ton from higher armor due to bear/dire bear form. There are plenty of good leather balance and healing items out there and I just don't think competing with 3 other cloth classes for loot is easy at all.

Note 3: The information on these pages are collected information from personal experience, Thottbot, and Allakhazam. Both of these sites collect large samples of kill to generate the drop rate. The samples are usually large enough (1,000+), but for some new encounters there might not be a large enough sample at the moment to get a correct drop rate. These pages will be updated when new information becomes available.
