Alterac
Valley Tips
In large scale PVP such as this 40-man arena,
you are generally expected to heal. But you can also be a damage
absorber (bear) or damage dealer (cat). You will be surprised
how many people still target you after you have turned into a
bear with 8,000+ armor. If you are feral spec you can dish out
pretty decent damage in cat form, on par with a rogue.
But
of course, you can always choose to move away from the primary
zerg, where majority of the other players are fighting. Take another
druid or a rogue as your partner and go “ninja” graveyards,
take a mine, or collect ram/wolf hides in enemy territory. Being
able to stealth is one of the biggest advantages druids have in
AV, since you can bypass enemy NPC’s and players to safely
reach their territory for your own purposes.
Now
let me explain what ninjaing something means, and what its purposes
are. Ninjaing a graveyard basically means one player suicide runs
through a graveyard flag capture point and aggroing all the guards,
while the other player caps the GY. If the GY is close to where
the main zerg group is, they can rush the GY and possibly keep
it. If you ninja a GY that's pretty far away from the main zerg
group, it may serve as a distraction to your enemy, taking their
members away from the main group and giving your teammates an
easier time to accomplish whatever you are trying to do.
Ninjaing
a graveyard and following up with the rest of the members rushing
in is the best method to capture GY’s in AV. You must know
that frontal assaults in AV rarely work due to the zerg factor
– your enemy revives at a closer spot and have NPC help
where you are trying to overtake. So even if you outnumber them,
each of them simply have to resurrect more than once to take you
out. The main battlefield in AV should not be at GY locations
but a fit farther away to serve as distraction purposes only.
After ninjaing the graveyard your teammates should immediately
use AoE spells over the GY region to prevent the enemy team from
capping it back. If your teammates are low on mana they should
be using rank 1 AoE spells. Remember that any damage will stop
flag capture. Fast 1 handed weapons are also a plus for attacking
players that are capping the flag.
Having
stealth also allows you to work with an entirely stealth team
composed of druids and rogues to take out enemy lieutenants for
cp, clear tower guards for further assault, or to take out enemy
mines that you must get across guards to reach. But keep in mind
that enemy pack animals do see through stealth. I play on the
Alliance side so I know that the black wolves who walk alongside
patrols see through stealth. Feel free to let me know if there
is an Alliance equivalent that I don’t know about.
So
keep the following in mind while playing AV:
-
Use stealth to your advantage and do tasks in areas your teammates
might not be able to reach.
- Tasks such as collecting supplies and hides are just as important
as fighting.
- The main "zerg" is only a distraction, and not typically
able to advance the game.
- Some beast NPC's may see through stealth.
- Ninjaing GY's can serve as either a distraction or a cue for
your teammates to rush.
And
on a side note...
If
you enjoy 1 on 1 PVP, I suggest going into enemy territory where
they are collecting rams/wolves for their riders (not hides).
You can collect hides and face many 1 on 1's at the same time.
